7-Day Tanzania Midrange Safari – Serengeti, Ngorongoro & Tarangire

On your last day of adventure, you'll depart after breakfast for Tarangire National Park. The fierce sun has parched the landscape, turning the earth a dusty red and the grass brittle as straw. The Tarangire River, now a mere shadow of its wet season self, is nevertheless teeming with life. Animals from far and wide converge here, knowing this is where water still flows. You'll arrive just in time for a hot lunch at your lodge. Post-lunch, an evening game drive awaits, where you'll witness herds of elephants, prides of lions, and countless other species congregated by the river.

Pick up from your Arusha hotel with your private safari guide and 4 x 4 safari land cruiser and transfer to Lake Manyara National Park. Located beneath the cliffs of the Manyara Escarpment, on the edge of the Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park offers varied ecosystems, incredible bird life, and breathtaking views. Located on the way to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, Lake Manyara National Park is well worth a stop in its own right. Its groundwater forests, bush plains, baobab-strewn cliffs, and algae-streaked hot springs offer incredible ecological variety in a small area, rich in wildlife and incredible numbers of birds. Dinner and overnight at the Camp/Lodge.

After breakfast, you will continue towards the fertile highlands where wheat, coffee and corn are grown by the Iraqw people. Passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will be able to see the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater before travelling onwards to the Serengeti National Park, which you will reach by midday. The Serengeti National Park is the largest in Tanzania with diverse landscapes and habitats, such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah and mountains. Here the biggest wildebeest and zebra migration takes place and depending on the season, you may have the opportunity to witness thousands of animals in their search for food and water.

After an extensive game drive, you will drive to your campsite where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

The entire day is set aside for more game drives in the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is the habitat for an abundance of wildlife, such as impalas, buffalo, crocodiles and hippos, but is more well-known for its great migrating herds of zebras and wildebeest. The animals’ trek is determined by the rainfall and varies from year to year. In November and December, the animals move from the northern region, dominated by woodlands and hills, to the grassy plains of the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June, they return to the north. Apart from the migrating herds, you might have the chance to see predators, such as leopards, cheetahs, and lions, always lurking close by.

After an unforgettable day, you will return to your campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.

As the morning progresses, your journey will lead you towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with a significant stop at Oldupai Gorge (often mistakenly called Olduvai Gorge). Here, you'll explore the cradle of humanity, where ancient fossils and stone tools have been unearthed, providing insights into human evolution. The Gorge itself is a dramatic, steep-sided ravine, offering not only historical significance but also breathtaking views. After absorbing this prehistoric narrative, you'll engage with the vibrant Maasai culture. You'll witness traditional Maasai activities, such as learning about their herding practices, trying your hand at spear throwing, or observing the intricate beadwork for which they are renowned. The day wraps up with cultural exchanges, where stories, songs, and dances fill the air, connecting you deeply with the Maasai's way of life, all set against the backdrop of one of Africa's most iconic landscapes.

Upon arrival, you'll descend into the crater, one of the largest unbroken calderas in the world, teeming with wildlife. Here, you'll spend the afternoon on a game drive, with ample opportunities to see a dense concentration of animals including lions, elephants, and with luck, the elusive black rhinoceros. The day concludes with dinner and overnight accommodation on the crater rim, offering stunning views of this natural wonder as the sun sets, encapsulating the day's adventure in an unforgettable panorama.

As the sun sets, transforming the sky into a canvas of orange and pink, you'll be transferred back to Arusha. From there, you'll head to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight back home, with memories of Tanzania's wild beauty etched in your heart.
