We begin our climb near the beautiful village of Machame, located on the southern side of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail passes through the lush Machame Forest before entering the moorland zone, where we navigate rocky terrain and continue toward the Shira Plateau.
From the Shira Plateau, the route continues around the mountain in a counterclockwise direction, passing beneath Kibo’s southern slopes. We ascend toward Lava Tower, enjoying spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, before continuing to the challenging but rewarding Barranco Wall.
The final ascent to Uhuru Peak begins from either Barafu or Kosovo Camp, following the ridge near the Southeast Valley. From Barafu Camp, climbers enjoy impressive views of Mawenzi Peak and the ancient volcanic formations of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Because this route provides limited time for acclimatization and includes demanding sections, it can be physically challenging. Proper preparation, pacing and guidance are therefore important for maximizing your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak.
